During the Revolutionary War, the American army was crossing a river on horseback. A man was standing close to the crossing, watching the soldiers cross. When General Washington was about to cross, the man approached him and asked him for a ride across the river. Washington agreed, and the man mounted the horse behind Washington. Half way across the river, Washington asked the man why he waited for him and why he asked him and not the other soldiers. The man replied, “You have a ‘yes’ face.”
I miss George Washington. Without him, we would not have this country. He fought for us, and he led this country with integrity and wisdom. I miss not being able to celebrate his birthday. His legacy is the United States of America. Schools used to teach about his invaluable contribution to our freedom. Now, they just don’t have time. He is no longer important to our heritage. Presidents’ Day honors all presidents, and does not single out our best and brightest, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. So a man who did not lie is equal to a man who cannot tell the truth.
In my book, “Choosing Life,” I told you about my Aunt Lainey. Last week, my aunt had major back surgery. The night before her surgery, she had two roommates in the hospital. Both ended up telling my aunt their stories. Both were encouraged by my aunt. My aunt has a “yes” face. She has always put others before herself, even in the hospital the night before a scary surgery while she was in pain. She not only helped me as a child, but she helped all of us cousins. Look around. Do you see anyone with a “yes” face? Do you have a “yes” face?
