I am not a fashionista. My style is strictly classic, with a twist. Fads and fashions come and go, but classic is always in style. I do have the classic wool blazer, but it is bright red. Years ago, I found the perfect shirt. It is a good quality long sleeve camp shirt with two pockets on the front. I can roll up the sleeves to make it a three-quarter length, perfect with slacks or jeans. So I bought over a dozen of them, solids, stripes, polka dots, flowered, red, white and blue. The initial outlay was a bit extravagant, but I’m still wearing them and I haven’t had to buy any more since.
The girls I worked with in my office many, many years ago used to tease me because I would only wear gold earrings. When I asked one of them how many earrings she had, she came up with about thirty. She spent $10 to $20 a pair, so that’s between $300 and $600. I told her I had three pair, two pair of gold earrings and one pair of pearls with gold posts. Altogether they cost $250, so I was actually more frugal than she was. I just prefer things that are real. When I was working, I had two pair of shoes, one pair of black pumps and one pair of black flats. After memorial day, I had one pair of white pumps and one pair of white flats. I wasted no time deciding which pair to wear and when. There they were, ready to go. There are just so many other things to think about than shoes. Now, as a retiree, I still have two pair of shoes, one pair of white tennis shoes and one pair of good red leather walking shoes for “dress.”
In a bible study once, the teacher told us we would be wearing pure white robes in heaven. The more good deeds we performed, the more elaborate the robe. I was horrified. I told them that I would be the only one there in a mini-skirt, and with my crooked legs, that was a real problem. But then again, maybe when I get to heaven, my legs will finally be straight. In any case, whatever I’m wearing, my sins will be covered by the blood of Jesus. The perfect clothing. And I will definitely be in style.
